Fine Jade
Posted on Friday, January 15th, 2010 at 2:12 pmCan I grow a jade plant on rocks in a dish? If I just misted it to water if would it be fine?
jades are a succulent, they do not tolerate wet feet very well at all, one of the most common reasons for these dying as houseplants is sitting in water. You can however plant them in a small amount of soil and cover the top with rocks. Some people have managed to keep them alive in pots with no drainage but I have not had good luck with them that way and most people don't. If you want the look of a dish/rock garden and a jade you might try potting it up in a small simple plastic pot with drainage and appropriate soil (cactus type) then bury the whole thing in decorative rocks in a bowl - meet both the plants needs and your desired look...
