Your thoughts please…does his last line applies to us Filipinos? How?

Your thoughts in these lines from Paolo Coelho’s blog on Warrior of the Light, using Philippines as your reference:

We pass by a beautiful building……….On one of the doors of the old wall hangs a lantern. Fathi comments that I am a well-known writer, whereas he is still struggling for recognition:

“Here we have the origin of one of the most famous of Arab proverbs: “light only illuminates strangers.”

I reply that Jesus made the same comment: no-one is a prophet in his own country. We always tend to lend value to what comes from afar, without ever recognizing all the beauty that is around us.

when you say, ...applies to us Filipinos, I presume you are referring to the generally accepted traits of the common Filipinos. Well, by impression most Filipinos tend to value the things that comes from afar as you have quoted it, to cite some; the likes of `pausong noypi`, whose preferrential taste of imported (signatured label products) goods instead of our own locally made.
If you think Filipinos tends to be as what you have have been asking is...Well, I am A Filipino, and not a bit bothered as to what and where my preferences are with. For me, I value and recognized true and real beauties, be it here or there from afar, of course for convenience always start searching from within.
